Fort Leavenworth Tour

Once a year, officers of Ft. Leavenworth open their homes for this wonderful event. This year, fifteen historic homes will be open for display, as well as the very popular Living History Encampment and Memorial Chapel. Eight of the homes on this year’s tour were built in the 1800’s, including the “Custer home” which is still being used in hosting visiting VIPs.

The plan is to meet at the IHOP restaurant over by the Racetrack in Kansas City KS, and motor some beautiful back roads over to one of the Fort’s gates. Plan on approximately 4-6 hours spent touring the Fort. This tour will be on an individual basis, not as a group.

In the afternoon, we’ll rendezvous at the Riverfront Community Center, which is housed at an 1888 Union Depot. There, we’ll step back into the late 1800's, to a time when Fred Harvey was helping tame the West with his train depot restaurants and the famous "Harvey Girls". We’ll be welcomed by the girls, who will serve a delicious luncheon, followed by a short presentation about Mr. Harvey and the Harvey Girls. Prices are still being finalized for the dinner, but are expected to be $12 per person.
