The Northwest Missouri Model A Ford Club would like to invite you to the 2015 Regional Meet being held in St. Joseph, Missouri from June 8 through June 12, 2015. Join us for a fun filled week of activities and tours.
We will be taking road trips to scenic locations such as Conception Abbey, the Lost Creek Wind Farm, and Shatto Dairy. We’ll drive to Lathrop Missouri Antique Car, Tractor and Engine Club for a tour and photo shoot. Of course there will be lots of good food, fellowship, ladies events, technical seminars and the ever popular Hubley Derby and Car Games. In addition self-guided tour information will be available.
The host hotel for the meet will be the Holiday Inn, located in downtown St. Joseph. The hotel has easy access to the highway and plenty of parking. If you’re more comfortable bringing your Model A on a trailer, trailer parking is available in hotel parking area.

Welcome to the Holiday Inn Riverfront hotel located in historic downtown St. Joseph, MO. Conveniently located off I-229 just 40 miles north of Kansas City International Airport (MCI). This hotel sits on the historic site of the first Pony Express weigh station responsible for delivering and receiving mail from the California coast. The hotel is within 15 minutes of many tourist attractions including the Pony Express Museum and the Jesse James Home Museum. Features include a 24-hour business center, an expanded fitness center as well as an indoor pool, whirlpool and sauna. There is also a walking trail located by the river less than two blocks away.
There is ample parking for trailers and your cars.
There are many great historical places in St. Joseph not included in our regular tours. However these will be available as self-guided tours. Complete descriptions with detailed maps will be available in your packet. Also St. Joseph Tourism will have an information table located in the hotel lobby.
6:00pm – 9:00pm Welcome Party
This is the traditional kick off for a fun-filled week. It’s a time to reunite with old friends and make a few new ones. We will open a Pasta Bar to start the welcome party. An overview of weekly activities along with some fun entertainment, and great door prizes will complete our evening!
This will be our first driving tour through the NW Missouri countryside. Our destination Conception Abbey, established in 1873, is one of the oldest operating monasteries in the midwest. Benedictine Monks will give guided tours of Conception Abbey and the Basilica.
Lunch will be served in the Abbey cafeteria, included as part of the tour.
Following lunch, we will motor our A’s to King City, home of the Lost Creek Wind Farm. This wind farm provides electrical energy to the Northwest Missouri power grid. We will stop at the Visitor Center for a break and to get a close up view of the turbine blades on display.
Our last stop at the Big Pump, built in 1937, offers a unique photo opportunity of a vintage NW Missouri gas station. On our return to the hotel, we will follow the historic old Jefferson Highway of the 1920’s (The Jefferson Highway, a fore runner of the Interstate, went from Winnipeg to New Orleans).
This is an optional evening driving tour that will showcase St. Joseph Scenic Parkway. Local club members will be the guides on this follow the leader tour.

Ice-cream will be served at the hotel to conclude a busy day of Model A activities.
Wednesday June 10th

Local Automotive Historian and Collector George Deel will do a presentation on Moto Meters.

George Deel will share his insights on automotive collectables.
9:00am – 10:00 am Hat Decoration
Looking for a fun way to add Model A Era fashion to your wardrobe? Then join us for a ladies hat decorating seminar. Pick your hat from a variety of sizes and colors, then choose a premade embellishment or make your own. Hats will be available on first come, first served basis. Don’t miss this opportunity to create a one of kind piece for your wardrobe.
11:30am – 2:00pm Ladies Luncheon & Program
Come enjoy a wonderful lunch and program. To start things off a plated lunch will be served. Mary Smith a dynamic personality known as “The Button Lady” will be our program presenter. Mary’s knowledge and perspective on collecting buttons will make for an interesting program. Door prizes and table decorations will all be possible take home items. Era fashion attire is encouraged.
12:00pm – 3:00pm Men’s Luncheon & Program
Lunch will be held at the Pony Express Museum just a short driving distance from the hotel. After lunch Jim Spawn Editor of the Restorer magazine will give a presentation on the Kansas City Assembly Plant during the Model A era. To conclude the luncheon, museum staff will give guided tours of the Pony Express Museum. On loan, the Buffalo Bill Cody exhibit will be on display during our visit.

Thursday June 11th
8:00am – 4:00PM Osborn & Lathrop Tour/Lunch
Our second driving tour will head to Shatto Dairy in Osborn, Missouri. Shatto Dairy is a small family owned and operated dairy farm that supplies Northwest Missouri with fresh hormone free milk in glass bottles, as well as locally made cheese products. We will have the opportunity to tour their dairy and bottling facilities, with perhaps a chance to milk a cow yourself! Some of their internationally award winning Flavored milks will be available for sampling. (They won first place in the World Dairy Expo 2010 with their Root Beer Milk!).
After lunch we will be touring the Old Town area on the museum grounds. Plan to have your photo taken in front of the 1920s Phillips gas station. Digital photos will be available for download on this web page. On our return to the hotel our As’s will follow beautiful back country roads to St. Joseph. Take your time, drive safely and enjoy the ride.

Games will take place at the Remington Nature Center parking area just a short drive from the hotel. Some fun events and games are planned! The Plain Ol A’s, our local Kansas Model A Club partners will conduct the car games. Two of our club members have been busy making some very nice plaques; you don’t want to miss trying to take one home.
Just a short drive from the hotel, the Remington Nature Center is located on the picturesque banks of the Missouri River. Here will be a great opportunity for visitors to see and explore the wonders of Missouri nature. You also can enjoy and explore the walking paths along the river.

Representatives from each club will meet to review and talk over Regional Meeting concerns. Plans for future Regional Meets can be announced and promoted. All are welcome, plan to attend this important annual meeting.

Era fashion or period dress is encouraged. Our week of “A’s in N.W. Missouri” will conclude with dinner at the hotel. A presentation on the MAFCA 2016 National Convention to be held in Loveland, Colorado will be previewed along with the Awards program and the raffle results. The Gas Pump winner drawing will close our 2015 Regional Meet.
Although no youth programs are planned for this meet all events are family friendly. There will be
a youth category in the Hubley Derby races.
No time or area has been set aside to hold an organized Swap Meet. We do support individual Suitcase
type swap activities by registered meet members. All swap activities are restricted to the parking lot area and should not conflict with regular meet programs.
